Every second you spend mining Google Autocomplete results for individual queries (and merging data from multiple free keywords tools together in spreadsheets) is time you could spend doing more important stuff… like actually creating content, or link building.

1. Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a no-charge web service by Google for webmasters. It allows webmasters to check indexing status and optimize visibility of their websites. As of May 20, 2015, Google re-branded Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console

Most keyword tools (free or otherwise) are made for finding new keywords to target.

But what about the existing keywords you already rank for?

Aren’t there insights to be gleaned from these? Definitely.

Google Search Console is, therefore, a keyword tool that should not be overlooked.

SIDENOTE. I’m going to abandon the “protein powder” example for this tool, as I don’t have access to Google Search Console data for a site ranking for such keywords. So I’ll use the Ahrefs blog instead.
Go to: Search Console > Search Traffic > Search Analytics > Queries

Then hit the impressions, CTR, and position checkboxes.

2. Keywords Everywhere

Free search volume, CPC & competition data for almost all the keyword research tools out there!

Keywords Everywhere is a free addon for Chrome (or Firefox) that adds search volume, CPC & competition data to all your favourite websites.

These websites include: Google, eBay, Amazon, Answer the Public, Keyword Shitter, and more.

3. Google Correlate

Google Correlate finds search patterns which correspond with real-world trends.
Yep—another tool from Google.

In Google’s own words, Google Correlate finds search patterns which correspond with real-world trends. I.e., trend correlations.

NOTE. Google Correlate is technically part of Google Trends. But I felt it deserved a standalone mention, as it generally provides a different way of finding keyword ideas when compared with trends.

4. Answer the Public

Answer the Public  is a free, online tool that provides insight into the kind of information people are searching for online. It’s championed by content creators and marketers as an effective means of figuring out what their audiences want to know more about. The question is: Does Answer the Public’s utility translate to small business owners, too? That’s what we’ll discuss this time on “Prospect Genius Reviews…”

How Does Answer the Public Work?
Before we dive into how well Answer the Public works for small business owners, though, we should briefly review how it works, period.

When you first go to the home page, you simply type in one of your business’s keywords and select your country. Then, Answer the Public generates a visual graphic to show all the questions and phrases people are frequently using when searching for that keyword. This data tells you what kind of specific information “the public” wants about that keyword, so you can put it in the right context.

To quote its own website, Answer the Public is meant to give you “a hint of the motivations & emotions of the people behind each search query.”

We experimented with the tool by using “SEO company” as our keyword. Answer the Public tells us that users are asking questions like:

“How much does an SEO company charge?”
“Why hire a professional SEO company?”
“What makes a good SEO company?”
“Who is a good SEO company?
They’re also searching for phrases like:

“Best SEO company for real estate”
“SEO company for contractors”
“SEO company for photographers”
“SEO company for small business”
“Best local SEO company for Google”

5. KEYWORD SHITTER Keyword Research SEO Software

It’s almost beautiful in its simplicity. Note the awesome toilet graphic as well. Lovely jubbly stuff right there.
